Fantasyland is home to the fairy tales. Entrance is the castle, Le Chateau de la Belle au Bois dormant, the looks of which are based on pictures from "Les très riches heures du Duc de Berry". Take the stairs to the painted glass windows and tapestry. As of March 1993 you can walk on the balcony15. On the left behind Liberty Arcade is een platform where Mickey may appear to have his picture taken with children (watch for ropes being installed there). Mickey Mouse does not appear quite often as a walk-around character.
A labyrinth of 2000 thuja-hedges in two stages. The second stage is named after the Queen of Hearts and has a small castle with laughing mirrors and a nice view from the towers.
A train ride through Snow White and the Seven dwarfs.
Les voyages de PinocchioA train ride through Pinocchio. Next to it is a delicious restaurant "Au Chalet de Marionette".
A flying boat through Peter Pan, with 28 robots. Watch the ingenious construction above you, just before the unloading area is reached. For unknown reason this ride is the most crowded of the small attractions.
16 Dumbo's, that kids can fly at their desired altitude. On top you can see a directing Timothy Mouse. The adult version of this attraction is Orbitron in Discoveryland. Limited capacity and very popular with kids.
A Merry-go-round with 86 horses and 17 carriages. The story of Lancelot is painted on it.
A year after the opening they placed the magic sword of King Arthur. When Merlin (and/or Carabas) appear(s) they try to find a boy or girl that will rule the Magic Kingdom for a day.
Originally made for the World Fair in New York of 1964, this is the
attraction of dancing puppets in traditional clothing, that sing of peace and equality, in
several languages. The attraction is sponsored by France Télécom34. In the white round
court you can see all puppets again but then in the same clothes. Don't forget to wave to
your own nationality. The British can be found very early in the ride (Tower Bridge), and
behind that bridge the Dutch puppets are located.
Three teacups move within a circle and four people in it can either take a nice tour or spin their horizon to oblivion!
Behind the Old Mill where you can buy Chambourcy-desserts, is since June 1993 a ferris wheel with 8 wooden cups. Rotating is very fast so you can watch Casey jr. from all positions.
A Podium show, 5 times a day, with Disney charcters. The first one was
"C'est magique" (with 100 characters), around Christmas it changes to "Le
Noël de Mickey", and currently it is "En scène, s'il vous plaît" with
characters from television (Roger Rabbit, Louie, Bonkers and Darkwing Duck). In the
wintertime they shielded the stage, so it's not so cold.
Jean Pieckowski created a giant pop-up book in the open air. Currently the show is called "Le Livre de Mickey", a musical tribute to Disney fairy tales, in French, English and German. Off season it usually is closed (to cold and a shortage of artists). Currently they transformed the stage in the 100 acres woods for Winnie the Pooh and friends.
Next to It''s a Small World the Storybookland-attraction from
Disneyland (California) is built. Travel the train from Dumbo (very speedy, but fun and
save for kids) or take a no-host ride in a boat to see scenes from fairy tales like Snow
White, Peter and the Wolf, Night on Bald Mountain (Fantasia), Aladdin, The Sword in the
Stone, Beauty and the Beast20, Hansl and Gretel, Rapunzel, The Little Mermaid, The Wizard
of Oz. In 1995 they added figurines to the scenes.
